Windermere House Independent Hospital in Hull provides specialist mental health care for adult men, offering 30 single-occupancy bedrooms across two dedicated wards. We accept both detained and non-detained patients, with an average length of stay of around 18 months.
Coniston Ward supports working-age men aged 18 and above living with enduring and progressive mental health disorders, acquired brain injury, cognitive impairment, forensic step-down needs, challenging behaviours and physical health co-morbidities. Kendall Ward provides care for men aged 60 and over with similar needs, tailored to older adults who may require additional physical health support.
Care pathways at Windermere House are person-centred, with every patient receiving a tailored plan that includes assessment, treatment, recovery and discharge planning. Our multi-disciplinary team works collaboratively with patients, families and NHS partners, including Humber and North Yorkshire, Lincolnshire ICB and Derby & Derbyshire ICB, to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care.
Therapeutic activities are at the heart of our approach, supporting recovery and wellbeing. Patients benefit from occupational therapy, music therapy, art psychotherapy and Oomph! on-demand sessions. These structured activities promote self-care skills, social confidence and independence, helping to prepare for transition back into the community.
We are proud of the recognition our team has received. In 2021, Windermere House was a finalist in four categories at the York & Humberside Great British Care Awards, including Registered Manager of the Year, Dementia Care Award, The Good Nurse Award and The Care Home Team Award, a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our staff.
