'Egg'cellent Care Homes Initiatives - Easter 2021

Care homes across the country didn’t let Covid-19 get in the way of enjoying the Easter Bank Holiday! From real-life Easter bunnies to bright & colourful Spring/Easter displays, care homes certainly succeeded in keeping residents spirits high.

Abbots Wood Manor, Hamberley Care Homes organised an action-packed weekend full of Easter-themed activities!

Amongst the exciting activities that went on at Abbots Wood Manor this weekend were: Easter-themed quizzes, egg painting for their colourful egg tree (pictured), reminiscing on the past when Easter bonnets were in fashion, mocktails and delicious Easter baking.

Abbots Wood Manor's wonderful Chef produced lots of amazing cakes, including an impressive Easter bunny cake!

The residents also enjoyed a live soprano concert of musical favourites and took part in scrabble matches where it's safe to say that they outmatched the staff!

The thoughtful care team at Coppice Lodge, Ideal Carehomes organised a 65th wedding anniversary for one of their residents!

After being separated for 10 months due to the pandemic, Michael & Chrystine Girvan were reunited for their 65th wedding anniversary with a candle-lit date in Coppice Lodge's vintage tearoom. Chrystine moved into the care home in October 2020 and 2 weeks prior to their anniversary, Michael decided to move into the care home to be closer to his wife. This was kept a secret from Chrystine who had no idea that Michael had been isolating for 14 days in the same building as her!

When asked how it felt to be reunited with his soulmate, Michael said, ‘I simply couldn’t ask for more, the staff at Coppice Lodge have been incredibly thoughtful, our date was wonderful – I can’t thank them enough for what they did to help us celebrate our 65th wedding anniversary!’ Chrystine added, ‘I am thrilled to be reunited with Michael, it means to world to me that he has moved into Coppice Lodge! Our date was lovely everybody clearly worked very hard to pull this together, our table setting was beautiful!’.

Queensway House, Gold Care Homes' Maintenance Manager created handmade animals for their Easter display!

Rosie, Queensway House's Customer Relations Manager said "We have had a great time together creating our spring/Easter display. Along with donations from staff and local community shops, we also have hand made animals cut in-house by our maintenance man and hand-painted by a volunteer".

St Katharine's, Gold Care Homes were visited by their very own real-life Easter bunny!

St Katharine's have their very own on-site therapy rabbit named 'Bunny' who can be pictured to the right having a cuddle with one of their residents! 'Bunny' lives with two Guinea pigs called Luna and Winney and they are all used as therapy animals for their residents & staff.

The brilliant Activities Team at St Katharine's also organised a range of activities for their residents including Easter bunny making, card making, Easter baking and egg decorating for their egg tree!

Red Oaks, Barchester donated an impressive Easter cake made by their Pastry Chef, Glennda Williams!

Henfield Medical Centre were the lucky winners of an amazing Easter bunny cake made by Red Oaks' talented Pastry Chef! The general public were encouraged to nominate someone who they thought would like the Easter cake by liking and sharing their post on Facebook.

Red Oaks also said a big thank you to all of their staff members for their hard work and for helping them achieve an 'Outstanding' result in their CQC Infection Control Inspection and their Barchester Quality Audit. Linda Ryan, Home Manager of Red Oaks commented "Red Oaks is a truly outstanding team!".

Dean Wood, Bupa residents enjoyed rocking their beautiful Easter bonnets!

Along with making beautiful Easter bonnets,  Dean Wood's residents celebrated Easter weekend with craft activities, bunting & decorations, lovely tea parties and (of course!) lots of chocolate Easter Eggs.

One of the residents can be seen to the right looking very happy wearing the Easter bonnet she made - doesn't she look lovely!

Kingfishers Nursing Home, Salveo Care had fun celebrating in their beautiful gardens!

Residents & staff made the most of the sunny weather on Easter Sunday by spending time in the picturesque gardens. They enjoyed flower arranging in the sunshine, a lovely afternoon tea prepared by their talented chefs and took delight in wearing their Easter bonnets!

Austenwood Nursing Home, Salveo Care also received a visit from the Easter bunny!

One of Austenwood Nursing Home's Nurses bought in her friendly rabbit to say hello to the residents on Easter Sunday! The image to the right shows one of the residents enjoying some time with the bunny.

The Activities Team also arranged Easter cookie decorating and lots of yummy chocolate treats for residents to enjoy!

Sunrise of Bassett, Sunrise Senior Living enjoyed lots of Easter-themed craft activities!

The Sunrise of Bassett residents had been very busy over the few weeks leading up to Easter. During their regular craft activities, the residents created unique decorations to ensure that the Easter bunny had a warm welcome of Easter Sunday. From the image to the left, it looks like it was a success!

Included in the Easter craft activities were card making for friends & relatives, Easter bonnet decorating, flower arranging & Easter basket making!

Manor House, Gold Care Homes made the most of the sunshine on Easter Sunday!

Whilst enjoying the lovely sunshine on Easter Sunday, residents at Manor House were busy with Easter crafts! Jean can be seen to the right wearing her pretty pink Easter bonnet and painting some eggs in the garden.

At Manor House, residents also made an 'egg'cellent job with the Easter word search and took part in the Easter tree display with staff members. Manor House's Home Manager, Sarah Harris, said "We have had a wonderful time together with sunshine and smiles.".
