Sparse activities, Food not good enough, Dubious integrity. The activities in this care home are in my opinion sparse to say the least. Very little effort is put into entertaining the residents and many are sitting around bored. Activities such as 'Fruity Friday', involve the staff making a smoothie and sharing it around. That is the activity for Friday. Other days' activities are similarly sparse, superficial or non-existent. The home smells quite strongly of urine, and this never changed throughout the whole period I visited my parent. The food is reasonable, but don't be surprised to get sandwiches of a weekend as a main meal. The staff were determined to get the higher 'EMI' rate for my parent, even though there was no formal assessment of my parent needing this care. The staff even lied about a visit and assessment by a doctor from the NHS, and when I asked to see a copy of it, were unable to produce it. When my parent died, Abbotsfield charged three days rent for cleaning her room, something they are paid to do out of the fees we pay each month. Some of the staff seemed (rightfully) ashamed of this. Some of the staff are friendly enough, though some were disrespectful (entering the room without knocking). On the whole, I appreciate it is a difficult challenge caring for the elderly, though in my opinion, the greater focus at Abbotsfield is on securing and saving funds at the detriment of the residents. This review of course represents my opinion. Please feel free to visit Abbotsfield and be received by the smiley faces full of promise about how entertained and cared for your parent will be.
