Fernihurst Nursing Home in Exmouth, Devon supports residents with complex nursing needs and dementia care in a safe, homely environment.

We have a lovely Namaste room at Fernihurst where residents can retreat to when they would like to relax. We find that this room is particularly beneficial for our residents living with dementia as it can help to alleviate agitation which can be a symptom. The room has a snooze area with calming lights and images, relaxing music, tactile furnishings and nostalgic photos. All senses are stimulated in the Namaste room and the scent of lavender and lemon engulfs the room.

Activities form a big part of life at Fernihurst; we enjoy music therapy, animal therapy sessions and arts & crafts. Our more mobile residents enjoy making use of the ‘Whizzy Bus’ which makes a special stop at Fernihurst every week to take our residents on day trips. We are soon to have an old fashioned sweet shop, ice cream parlour and winter wonderland around Christmas time. Every Christmas, Devoncourt Hotel reserves front row seats for our residents at their impressive lights display where they enjoy hot chocolate as their take in the display.

Our main garden is enclosed, secure and wheelchair accessible. We have special sensory features dotted around for our residents living with dementia. Walking past particular areas of the garden will prompt sounds of the sea or animal noises which are played through special sensors. There is a water feature and giant canopy where plenty of singing takes place.

Fernihurst is a residential care home with carers on hand to support residents 24/7 with their care needs. The weekly cost of care at Fernihurst is dependent on the individual care requirements of an individual but starts at £1,053. We may be able to accept residents who receive funding support from their local council but this will be under the Home Manager's discretion.
