Hallgarth Care Home

You’ll find Hallgarth in a quiet location just a short walk from Durham’s charming city centre with its shops, cafés, restaurants and other amenities including public transport.

Our team provides residential care for people who need a little help with daily tasks like washing, dressing and eating, along with general nursing care for people with more complex medical needs. We also offer respite care to give family or friends a well-earned break and intermediate care as an alternative to a hospital stay. Residents are at the heart of life at Hallgarth and we’re very proud of our home’s welcoming and lively social atmosphere.

Listening to our residents is one of the most important things we do, so that we can truly get to know them and make sure they get the most out of every day. Our home is well known for the sheer variety of our daily activities including a poetry club, a weekly service with our local vicar, visits from the country cricket club and university students, table cricket, weekly care dog visits, trips into town and nature watches.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are the cornerstone of daily life at Hallgarth. We place importance on protecting residents meal-times as good nutrition and hydration are key to staying well. Our daily menu always offers a choice of at least 2 dishes for each meal time and individual dietary requirements are always catered for. Family members of residents are very welcome to ‘book-in’ and join us for a meal.
