At 66 Dudley Street we provide support to six individuals with a learning disability. We specialise in supporting people with autism who may show behaviours that challenge and also have experience of supporting people with epilepsy.
The service is in a residential area within walking distance of West Bromwich town centre, giving easy access to shops, cafes and other local facilities. We are also close to other towns, including Walsall and Wolverhampton, where we make use of facilities such as a swimming pool, day centres, libraries and an art gallery. Each person chooses which activities the would like to take part in. As well as being close to public transport, we have two service vehicles. There is good access to the motorway network, allowing us to make trips further afield.
Each individual’s person centered plan details their communication needs and preferences, and staff are supported by a behavioural therapist, who works closely with them to equip them with the skills and knowledge they require. One to one support is provided in the home, with some individuals receiving two to one support in the community.
The home was purpose built to meet the needs of people with autism, with wide corridors and low stimulus decor. Theere are spacious shared areas including a large lounge leading on to the garden where there is a swing. We have a quiet room and a separate library. The kitchen has been designed to enable everyone to help with daily tasks such as cooking and laundry. The service has six bedrooms, each with en-suite facilities.
