My mother in law had live at Hillbrow in january this year My Mother-in-law had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and she was obviously not safe to continue living in her own home by herself, she needed to have 24 hour care and support. She used to be a very sociable lady but had become withdrawn in herself, it was then decided we needed to look for some where she would be happy and safe. when we decided to move her into Hill brow it was the best decision for all of the family, when we were looking around the different homes it felt like home from home and the staff are always willing to help. There was no offensive smell like some of the other homes we looked at, and the food is all cooked fresh in the home. she has now got a very active social life she enjoys all of the trips, activities and she attends the day centre twice a week, she receives out standing care, the staff are all very friendly and helpful, the homes office is always open and we are always able to chat at any time, nothing is to much trouble. we are offered refreshments when we visit.. We enjoy the walks around the garden, which has a fantastic fish pond in it, the residents enjoy sitting and watching this. the staff take time to sit and chat with the residents which is nice. The resident also seem to like to have the television on in between the daily activities, which are great and provide a variety of activities to all. My mother-in-law is looking forward to going to the seaside with the home later this month.

Warm, friendly and always caring home from home The care my mother received during her time at Hill Brow was exemplary. The size of the home was just right. It continued to feel like a home, you could see the staff coming and going into the office and into the kitchen, the dining room and lounge areas all felt very homely. That familiar care-home smell of stale urine was only rarely apparent. Once when I detected it in Mum’s room her chair was immediately cleaned and it returned to normal. The range of activities provided every day were just right to keep people talking and involved – and the staff providing those activities always had happy smiling faces. It was noticeable that the tv was never left turned on and up loud on some young persons channel. All the staff behaved really well with the residents at all times, knew them as individuals and treated them in a friendly and respectful way. The gardens and surroundings were beautifully maintained, even though most residents rarely ventured out it gave them something nice to look at. My only criticism relates to the difficulty that could occur at night with only two staff on duty. This meant that on three occasions Mum was admitted to A&E after a fall in the bathroom. If there had been a better paramedic intervention service available or out of hours GP service. The team finally worked well with the GP to make Mum’s final days receiving palliative care so calm and quiet, and for supporting family members at that time.

5* care My mother was only at Hill Brow for 5 months before she died, but never once complained that she wanted to go home. She frequently remarked, 'It's very comfortable here', or 'The staff are so kind'. She seemed very content, and even happy. She loved watching the birds on the feeders outside her room, and always said that the food was excellent. I cannot fault the care that Mum received; the staff were always very patient and good-humoured, there was a welcoming atmosphere and the rooms always kept clean (despite incontinence!). The garden maintenance is exceptional, and requests for maintenance inside the home always carried out quickly and efficiently. The staff were very attentive during her last few days and made sure that all my wishes were carried out.

my father I was looking for a care home for my father as my mother could not longer look after him, so we decided to look at hillbrow. The home is well maintained and very clean, the staff were very pleasant and professional, the manager was excellent at answering all questions that i was asking, and knowledge & experience was extraordinary to any other other homes that i looked at. My father did move into hillbrow & was given excellent care at all times & the commiuncation was fault less & would recommend hillbrow to anyone looking for residential care. Thank you one and all.

Excellent Respite Experience We heard about Hill Brow from friends who had a family member staying there. We wanted to find a suitable place for Mum to stay while we had to travel away for a few weeks rather than leave her at home alone. Everyone has a preconception of what an elderly care home is like but Hill Brow changed our minds. The home was beautiful and the staff very welcoming and friendly. Mum was assigned a key worker who kept in touch with us while we were away and we never had to worry about a thing. We received regular emails about how Mum was doing and they even had a resident telephone so that we could call and speak with her whenever we wanted to. On the day we picked Mum up she was sitting in the lounge while a singer was performing for the residents and we all joined in for a sing-a-long and offered refreshments. We were so worried that Mum wouldn't like to stay away from home but we were so relieved to see her happy and taking part. The home's manager gave Mum a big hug before we left and reassured us that Mum was welcome back anytime. Our thanks to Hill Brow for taking care of Mum and we will definitely consider this home in the future for our family's care.

Consistent excellent care Through both parents I have been associated with Hill Brow for more than five years. In all that time I have never been other than delighted with the standard of care. It has been such a relief to know that I never need worry about either of my parents. Whenever I visit the staff are consistently helpful and friendly while completely professional. This care home sets a standard for all.

Wonderful staff All the residents at Hillbrow are treated with great care and respect and their individual needs, preferences and interests are noted and encouraged. The staff are kind and endlessly patient. Staff turnover is low and the residents see the same faces all the time, which leads to lower levels of anxiety and confusion. It also means that the staff know the residents very well. Relationships between staff and residents are able to develop over time and the residents' changing needs are therefore easily observed and acted upon. A programme of daily activities is in place and residents are encouraged to participate in the craft, crosswords, quizzes and musical entertainment on offer. The garden and grounds are well tended and a real bonus in good weather. Family and friends can visit at any time (except mealtimes) and are welcomed. The office has an 'open door' policy so management and senior staff are always available.

Feels like home! The staff at Hill Brow could not be more caring and kind. Most importantly, for me and my Mum, no agency staff are used so my Mum (who is deaf and lipreads) sees the same people and is forming really good relationships with them and they are getting to know her well. Communication between Hill Brow and relatives is excellent in my opinion. All the staff are friendly and approachable and we are always made to feel very welcome. There is a lively programme of social activities each morning and afternoon and various outings that residents can take part in.
