Current resident of Red Admiral Court My name is David Wilkinson, I am thirty years old and originally from Consett, County Durham. I have lived at Red Admiral Court since November 2005, after moving here from Henshaws College in Harrogate. I have studied various different ICT courses at Newcastle College since 2007, something which I still currently do every Wednesday. I am very grateful to the staff of Red Admiral Court in helping me enquire about such courses, as this is one of my biggest passions. In doing so, I feel like I have learned so much about this subject. Whilst living here, I take part in many weekly activities such as going to the Gym, swimming, attending the library, going out for lunch and Trampolining, to name only but a few! One day a week, we also take part in something called 'Living Skills' This includes dusting and hoovering my bedroom, cleaning my own ensuite bathroom, making my bed and general housekeeping around my room. As well as this, we go to a local supermarket to pick ingredients, so I can make my own evening meal from scratch. This has given me the skills I need when I will live independently in the future, something which I am very happy about. My main hobbies are listening to audio books which I get from the RNIB and Gateshead Library, listening to music, watching various different Prison series on DVD, and being an avid follower of Alan Robsons Night Owls. Whilst living here, I have been on many great and exciting holidays to Keswick, Kielder and Hull, and have been on trips to places such as; Flamingo Land, Scarborough, Lightwater Valley, various concerts and Leeds Festival. As well as this, we are currently planning a trip to Spain at the end of the year! I believe I have achieved a lot whilst living here and this includes making my own hot drinks and breakfast every morning, something which I couldn't do independently before living here and doing my Cane Skills, in which I can go to our local Postbox, independently just using my Cane. I also have a great relationship with all of the Service Users and Staff, and believe I am very easy to get along with. I enjoy socialising very much and even have Skype set up in my room so I can speak to my girlfriend, Alex, who lives in Chesterfield and other friends who I used to attend Henshaws College with. I would recommend this house as a place to live because it has a great, upbeat atmosphere, we are always on the go doing various different activities of our choice and we also take part in Monthly Residents meetings, so our voice can always be heard.

Our daughters home from home Our daughter has been a resident at Red Admiral Court for seven years now and it has been a tremendous experience for us all ! The house is a very warm and friendly place, both the staff and residents make it a lively, happy, community in which everyones personal needs seem to be met. Our daughter enjoys her time in the house, learning new living skills as she takes on more tasks in her personal care and development, supported by staff working to a co-ordinated written plan agreed in consultation with her. She enjoys a multitude of different experiences each week, choir, trampolining, swimming, gym, trips to the pub and youth club, all with other residents, or on her own, as she wishes. Even trips away to outward bound weekends in the Lakes, with activities we never thought she would do, let alone enjoy! A photograph sent from a mobile of your daughter abseiling down a cliff is certainly an attention getter! Communication between Red Admiral Court and ourselves is very good, news, good or bad, is always shared, which makes for a relaxed atmosphere when we all meet in the kitchen to discuss the latest goings on. To sum up, our daughter is very happy at Red Admiral Court, she is very well supported by caring staff, in a safe environment, but where she can develop and enjoy new experiences, with a real self determining lifestyle, this has boosted her confididence in everyday social situations enormously All this, of course, makes us, and the rest of our family very pleased and we would like to thank all at Red Admiral Court, and Henshaws in total for the tremendous work they do. Parents of a very happy resident at Red Admiral Court
